About community engagement
“We're excited to fiscally sponsor The Change Lab as they bring the Community Exchange to life! The platform is designed to make civic engagement more accessible and approachable, showing people that even the smallest actions can make a meaningful difference in our communities.”Michelle Avalos · Director · Impact Hub Houston (Fiscal Sponsor)
Community Engagement has always been part of my practice. It keeps me anchored in community, in conversation, and in collaboration.
The Change Lab + Community Exchange
The Change Lab organizes research, local resources, and ways to participate so people can find where to begin.
- Culture guide + community pathways
- Community Exchange: a free, neutral guide to civic life in Houston
- Dinners for Democracy + Coffee for Change
- Levels of engagement: learn, act, lead
Washington Cultural Arts District
Through partnerships with artists, small businesses, and civic leaders, we developed the Washington Cultural Arts District, bringing new life and shared pride to a historic corridor.
Spacetaker
I founded Spacetaker because Houston artists needed practical support around the work: a way to be found, share resources, learn from one another, and reach audiences.
- Artist profiles, event listings + opportunities
- Workshops + professional development
- Exhibitions, performances + the Winter Holiday Art Market
- Merged with Fresh Arts Coalition in 2012 to form Fresh Arts
