Crashed

Personal

A series about interruption — moments when the expected path ends and something unexpected takes its place.

What was happening

Interruption as subject.

The series began with a literal crash — an accident that forced a pause in normal life. What followed was a period of enforced stillness that turned out to be unexpectedly productive.

Crashed is about the way disruption reveals things. When you stop moving forward, you see what was there all along.

Crashed — photography series

David’s role

Stillness as a practice.

The photographs were made slowly, in the period following the interruption they document. They are not about the crash itself but about what came into focus afterward.

There is a kind of attention that is only possible when the default activity is unavailable. These images are a record of that attention.
